Terms of use
Plain-language terms for reading and sharing Uptick. By using the site, you agree to them.
Last updated October 20, 2026.
What Uptick is
Uptick publishes explainers about stories that are trending. They are general information, written from published sources and reviewed against them. They aren’t legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. For decisions that matter, talk to a qualified professional and use official sources.
Accuracy
We work to get the facts right and to correct mistakes quickly, but news changes fast and we can’t promise that every explainer is complete or current at the moment you read it. Each explainer shows when it was published or last updated and lists the sources it relied on. See our editorial standards and how to report an error.
How content is made
Uptick explainers are researched and drafted with AI tools and written under human-designed editorial rules, including source requirements, copy checks and fact checks. We say so on every explainer. Our artwork is original and generated by our own tools, not taken from news photos or other publishers.
Advertising and links
Uptick may show advertising, including ads served by Google. Ads are separate from our reporting and are labeled “Advertisement.” No advertiser, company or campaign pays for coverage, reviews our explainers in advance or influences what we write. Please don’t click ads for any reason other than your own interest. Links to other websites are provided so you can check our sources. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or privacy practices.
Using our content
You’re welcome to quote a short passage of an explainer with a link back to it, and to share links to our pages. Please don’t copy whole explainers, republish our artwork, or scrape the site to build a competing product without our written permission. Ask through our contact page. Names, logos and other material from news organizations and companies that appear in our explainers belong to their owners.
What you agree not to do
Don’t use the site to break the law, to interfere with how it works, to try to access anything you aren’t meant to, or to harass anyone.
No warranty and limits on liability
Uptick is provided “as is,” without promises that it will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, Uptick and the people behind it aren’t liable for losses that come from relying on the site. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law that can’t be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
